Variety: EA Cuts About 400 Jobs and Shuts Down BioWare
A memo, then a closure
Electronic Arts is laying off about 3% of its global workforce, roughly 400 people, and closing its BioWare studio, Variety reported Wednesday.
The news came in a staff memo from executives Cam Weber and David Tinson, who said EA would stop early work on a new Mass Effect game and close BioWare's Edmonton office.
What the memo tells workers
The memo says affected employees will get help exploring other roles inside EA, that staff can take questions to their own leaders, and that a global town hall is set for November.
What remains unclear
EA did not say how many people may move into new roles. The 400 figure is Variety's estimate based on EA's last reported headcount of 14,500.
